Nurse Practitioners in Louisiana are considered Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN). The Louisiana State Board of Nursing requires anyone seeking licensure as an APRN to have a current Louisiana registered nursing licenses, a minimum of a master’s degree in advanced practice nursing or a post-master’s certificate in advanced practice nursing from an accredited school whose curriculum meets the requirements set by the board of nursing and national certification in the specialty he/she will be practicing in through a national certifying organization recognized by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
