Nurse practitioner programs prepare students to provide preventative and acute health care services to patients of all ages. Students may also choose to pursue specific training in specialty areas such as adult, geriatric or women’s health. Nurse practitioners are prepared to work autonomously evaluating, diagnosing and treating patients.

The job outlook for advanced registered nurse practitioners in Kentucky is excellent. The demand for cost-effective and high quality health care in Kentucky’s health systems will continue to drive the increasing need for ARNPs in Kentucky. 60 to 80 percent of primary and preventive care can be performed by nurse practitioners, according to the American Nurses Association. Which means that health care systems, clinics and physician practices across Kentucky will continue to look for ARNPs to fill this critical health care provider role.
