New Hampshire Nurse Practitioner Programs
As a nurse practitioner in the state of New Hampshire, you are officially known as an advanced registered nurse practitioner or ARNP.
Other specializations such as nurse midwifery, psychiatric/mental health nursing, clinical nurse specialists, and nurse anesthetists fall under the spectrum of advanced practice nursing, but here we will focus specifically on the nurse practitioner specialization.
In order to become licensed as an NP in New Hampshire you must first have a valid RN license in the state. In addition, you must graduate from a master’s level nursing program that adequately prepares you to become a nurse practitioner. Such programs must be approved by the board of nursing. It is not uncommon for online NP programs not to be listed as “approved” programs by a state’s board of nursing. However, if such a program is accredited by a national organization such as the CCNE or NLNAC, it will most often meet a state board of nursing’s guidelines for approval. Though all of the programs listed below are accredited, before enrolling in any nurse practitioner program, it is wise to check to see if the specific school and program you are considering will be accepted by the New Hampshire Board of Nursing. Looking beyond the scope of advanced practice nursing, you may be interested in exploring additional MSN programs in New Hampshire as well.
In addition to the above, in order to become licensed to practice as an ARNP in NH, you must also be able to show that you have passed a National Certifying Exam in your specialty area. Certification exams approved by the New Hampshire Board of Nursing include those given by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board, and the National Certification Corporation for the Obstetric, Gynecologic, and Neonatal Nursing Specialties. Along with proof of national certification, you must must be able to validate that you have completed at least 400 hours of “active practice” within the four years preceding your application for licensure.
According to the Advance for Nurse Practitioners 2007 salary survey, the average salary for an nurse practitioner is $77,038 per year in New Hampshire. This varies and is dependent upon conditions such as employer, location, and specialty, just to name a few. It does seem consistent however that those that practice within an emergency care department or neonatal unit have the potential to make significantly more money while those who practice in an educational setting are at the lower end of the pay scale.
