Nurse Practitioner Programs in Idaho
According to the Idaho Board of Nursing, in order to become a practicing nurse practitioner in Idaho you must successfully complete a master’s degree program in advanced practice nursing and pass the national certification exam in your specialty. Documentation must be included in a licensure application for Advanced Practice Professional Nurse (APPN) submitted to the Idaho State Board of Nursing. All NPs must be approved to practice by the Idaho Board of Nursing.
According to the Idaho Nursing Workforce Advisory Council, there is a significant shortage of Nurse Practitioners in the state of Idaho primarily due to the lack of master’s degree nursing programs in Idaho. Idaho State University offers the MSN with different nurse practitioner tracks. However, campus based programs can be difficult for students to attend if the program is not geographically convenient or the student continues in their current professional nursing position while working toward his or her MSN.
Online MSN – nurse practitioner programs provide an option for registered nurses who want to pursue advanced practice careers as nurse practitioners. Clinical sites are often arranged in the student’s local community and course content is identical to the course content taught through campus based programs. Online nurse practitioner programs have a variety of specializations to choose from and many have national accreditation. Graduates are also eligible to sit for for the necessary national certification exams required to practice in Idaho.
