LVN Programs in California – CA
LVN programs generally take one year to fourteen months to complete and prepare students for vocational nursing careers in the booming California health care industry. This is can be a great opportunity to enter the nursing field with the only prerequisites for admission to schools being a GED or equivalent education. Some schools in California follow the “ladder concept,” which means students are required to first complete a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program then they may move into the Vocational Nursing (VN) program. There may also be some prerequisite classes, like biology, mathematics and psychology to complete before enrolling in the VN program. It is critical to closely examine the admissions requirements and program philosophy at any school you may be considering to make sure you are not wasting your time or the school’s time with an incomplete application.
The NCLEX-PN exam is taken after graduation from an LVN program and prior to practicing as an LVN in the state of California. This brings up another factor to consider when selecting an LVN program, NCLEX-PN pass rates.

Vocational Nursing programs are regulated and approved by the California Bureau of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Technicians. In order to meet the requirements for vocational nurse licensure in the state of California you must successfully complete an accredited vocational nursing program at an in-state or out of state vocational nursing program.
Where Do LVNs Find Employment and What Do They Make?
LVNs in California may find employment in physician offices, home health care, long term care facilities, hospitals and other health care facilities. LVNs generally work under the supervision of a licensed registered nurse or physician. According to the California Bureau of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Technicians website, LVNs in California earn $14 to $24 an hour depending on experience, location, facility ad other factors.

LVNs often pursue LVN to RN bridge programs to create greater career opportunities and earning potential.
