The nursing faculty shortage in Massachusetts has created a backlog of applicants on waitlists for Massachusetts nursing programs. This in turn has added to the critical nursing shortage in Massachusetts. Massachusetts nursing schools are doing what they can to recruit nursing faculty to educate new nurses. Registered nurses seeking advanced degrees such as their BSN are running into the backlog as well and many have chosen to pursue an online RN to BSN path to avoid the waitlists and take advantage of the flexibility an online nursing program offers.

With the recent recession and potential of another the shortage of nurses in Massachusetts has slackened quite a bit. Professional nursing organizations are, however, warning that once the economy begins to rebound and those nurses at retirement or passed retirement age begin to leave the profession, there will be a dramatic shortage of nurses in all states including Massachusetts. Don’t let the current situation get you down or deter you from pursuing you goals of becoming a nurse. Online Nursing Schools in Massachusetts

The goal is to help lessen the impact of the nursing faculty and nurse shortage in Massachusetts by offering online nursing programs through CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) accredited online nursing schools. These online nursing programs are designed for registered nurses seeking LPN to BSN, RN to BSN or RN to MSN degrees. With more hospitals and health care agencies in Massachusetts seeking registered nurses with baccalaureate degrees in nursing to fill their vacancies getting an advanced degree is the logical next step for any registered nurse. Online nursing programs can often be completed at a much more accelerated pace than a campus based program. You’ll also find that the flexibility of an online nursing program can be more conducive to your work schedule.

One must have a master of science in nursing to teach nursing in Massachusetts. However, due to the shortage of nursing faculty, the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing is taking applications to waive the MSN requirement if an RN student has a BSN and is enrolled in an MSN program. Becoming a nurse educator is a respectable and rewarding career and they are much needed in Massachusetts.
