CNA Training Programs in Indiana

To work in long term care facilities or any related facilities as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) in Indiana, a certification process is required. The first requirement is to successfully complete a Nurse Aide training program that has been approved by the state. A listing of these approved CNA programs can be found below. CNA Training in Indiana

The Indiana State Department of Health – Division of Long Term Care encourages applicants to CNA programs to have a high school diploma or its equivalent, though this is not required for enrollment. CNA classes in Indiana are required to provide 30 clock hours of classroom instruction and 75 clock hours of clinical training. Prior to any contact with residents/patients each student is required to have 16 hours of classroom instruction completed.* An example of the CNA program curriculum that students will encounter include CPR training, how to assist patients with activities of daily living, basic nursing skills (taking temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, weight, etc.), emergency preparedness and response, infection control, caring for and comforting patients when death is imminent and assisting nurses during treatments, medical procedures and emergencies.

CNA Testing in Indiana

The testing portion of the CNA certification in Indiana is administered by Ivy Tech Community College (317-917-5948). Upon successful completion of the CNA training graduates will need to register for the exam. Passing both components, skills evaluation and the written/oral exam, enables the Nurse Aide to be listed on the Indiana Nurse Aide Registry and use the title Certified Nurse Aide (CNA).
