Arkansas Nursing Jobs and Salary Information
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projected in 2005 that more than 3.1 million registered nurse jobs would be available by 2014. That would add more than 700,000 new jobs for nurses. Arkansas is no exception to this nursing shortage and the job outlook for nurses, especially with a BSN or another advanced degree, is very promising.
If other projections from the American Hospital Association hold true, the country could have a shortfall of 600,000 nurses by 2020, said Mike Meeks, vice president for Northwest Health System. This bodes well for nurses in Arkansas looking for work. Hospitals in Arkansas are offering more incentives to recruit new nurses to fill vacancies, including higher wages, flexible work schedules and some offering tuition reimbursement. Hospitals are not the only place for nurses to work. In Arkansas, home health companies are growing rapidly. Clinics in the more rural areas of Arkansas are also in dire need of nurses and the pay is very competitive in these areas.
One of the primary reasons there is such a large nursing shortage in Arkansas is the lack of faculty at nursing schools to accommodate the number of students needed to fill the registered nurse demand. If you are interested in teaching and already hold you BSN, the University of Phoenix offers a Master’s in Nursing Health Care Education as well a certificate in Health Care Education if you already hold a Master’s in Nursing. These credentials will prepare you for a teaching position at one of the Arkansas Nursing Schools. Again, Nursing faculty is greatly needed in Arkansas, consider the rewards and excitement you could generate for your profession by education young minds with a desire to become nurses.
